Most weekends when the weather was fine our very large, friendly balloon man would be seen walking up and down the street with a huge cluster of balloons saying "Make the ladies happy...make the children happy" in his booming baritone.

A guy has gotta do what he's gotta do.

I remember this little weaver who spent weeks building and tearing down nests outside my window in Johannesburg, South Africa. Poor little guy was finally reduced to hanging around my garden, smoking butts, and drinking. He was a frustrated mess, his feathers were askew. I worried for him. I think he eventually went into therapy or threw himself in front of a marauding mongoose.
