Your Honor, my client feels strongly that applying the “third time offender” rule to discourage turning left into parking spaces on Maplewood Ave is a bit extreme.

Winner of NYTimes The Local's First Cartoon Caption Contest
Congratulations to our first winners of last week’s caption contest, Ken O, Georgeann, and Read Sherman!
Here are the winning captions from last week:
First Place:
“Bottles? You just don’t get it do you Jimmy?” — Ken O
Second Place:
“We all have our hobbies, Billy. It’s just that some are a little healthier than others.” — Georgeann
Third Place:
“Gosh, Billy, your show-and-tell about your dad’s work was the best! I wish my father was a microbrewer. Say, do you think the teacher would mind if you let me sample the honey brown ale?” — Read Sherman.
Our judge is the impeccably credentialed and unbesmirchable Andy Newman, our Brooklyn blogger, who describes his affiliations with Maplewood, Millburn and South Orange this way:
Andy Newman was born in Summit, spent the first four years of his life in Berkeley Heights, and has not returned to the area since. Despite having spent several years working for the Times New Jersey Weekly section out of the Newark bureau, not a single one of his 2,012 published Times articles carries a Millburn, Maplewood or South Orange dateline. He does not recall ever having set foot in any of the three towns, except for one unfortunate trip to the Mall at Short Hills.
Congratulations to all winners! First prize is the winner’s choice between an Obama Inauguration issue of The New York Times, or a Times T-shirt.
Thanks for participating — now do it again!
